Scotland Women A easily beat Northumberland Women by nine wickets at Grange Loan Edinburgh.

With the weather forecast looking a bit uncertain Ollie Rae on winning the toss had no hesitation in asking Northumberland to bat first.

Jess Mills who opened the bowling with Abbi Aitken struck the first blow for the home side when she had Kelly Withycombe well caught by Sarah Bryce standing up at the stumps. in the fifth over with the total on 12.

After the opening bowlers initial spell they were replaced by Lily Steindl and Lois Wilkinson and both bowlers got in amongst the wickets with Steindl snapping up two victims courtesy of further smart catches by Sarah Bryce standing up to the stumps.

Wilkinson bowling from the Lovers Loan end was proving equally difficult to play as she bowled her ten over allocation straight through finishing with 3 for 12.

Aitken then returned and clean bowled Nicola Hawes who had given stubborn resistance top scoring for the visitors with 28.

With the Scottish bowlers on top Northumberland could only muster 81 before their innings closed in the thirty sixth over.

On the resumption Ollie Rae and Sarah Bryce quickly took control of the match punishing any wayward deliveries as they rushed to 42 in nine overs before Bryce was caught by Campbell for 6.

That was the only success as Wilkinson joined Bryce and the pair easily passed the required total in the seventeenth over with Rae finishing one run short of a well-deserved fifty.

Scotland will complete their league fixtures when they meet Cumbria at Nunholm Dumfries on 23rd July
