Canada and Oman have secured promotion to Division 2 of the World Cricket League after finishing in the top two of Division 3 after the final round of round-robin matches today in Uganda.

At the Lugogo Oval in Kampala, Malaysia - needing a win if they were to have any hope of avoiding relegation - won the toss and put Oman into bat, who promptly lost Khawar Ali lbw to the first legitimate ball of the match after starting the innings with a wide.

Jatinder Singh and Aqib Ilyas then put on 97 for the second wicket, scoring 44 and 61 respectively. Oman trundled along and were 199-6 with seven overs remaining, at which point Naseem Khushi came to the crease and clubbed an unbeaten 77 from just 30 balls to take them to a total of 293-7 from their 50 overs.

Malaysia struggled with the bat in reply, with Anwar Arudin's 57 the only highlight of their innings. Khawar Ali took 5-23 and Munis Ansari took 4-47 as they were bowled out for 162 to lose by 131 runs. That ensured that Oman secured a third consecutive promotion, continuing a remarkable two years that has also seen them qualify for the World Twenty20.

Over at the Kyambogo Oval, Canada won the toss and chose to put Singapore into bat. Singapore lost their first three wickets quickly, and it took 58 from Anish Paraam to prevent complete disaster. Chetan Suryawanshi also chipped in with 38 as Singapore were bowled out for 166. Bhavindhu Adhihetty was the pick of the bowlers with 3-10.

Adhihetty was then the first wicket to fall in the Canadian reply, being bowled for a duck by Janak Prakash. A low target proved just insurmountable for the Canadians, despite Rizwan Cheema scoring a quick 42 from 35 balls. They were bowled out for 164 to lose by 2 runs. The margin of victory for Singapore though wasn't enough to help them pass Canada on net run rate, so the Canadians will be going back to Division 2.

The other game of the day between hosts Uganda and the USA was the game that decided which team would be relegated along with Malaysia. The net run rate situation was such that a win for USA would be enough for them, but it wasn't looking likely when they could only manage 145 before being bowled with a ball to spare, Elmore Hutchinson the only bright spot with 52 from 50 balls batting at number 9.

That innings proved to be vital as Uganda were bowled out for 132, Steven Taylor taking 5-32. The 13 run win for the visitors was enough to successfully avoid relegation. For Uganda though, after bouncing between Divisions 2 and 3 since the beginning of the World Cricket League now find themselves in Division 4.

As always with the World Cricket League now follows the often anti-climatic play-off round tomorrow as Oman play Canada for first place, Singapore play the USA for third place and Uganda play Malaysia for fifth place.
