HOLDERS Clydesdale yesterday crashed out of the Citylets Scottish Cup as a century from Fraser Watts saw Carlton progress at Titwood.
In a repeat of last season’s CS Grand Final, the capital troops again proved too strong for their Glasgow opponents, easing to a 71-run win.
Watts and opening partner Kyle Macpherson set the tone with a stand of 129 before the latter departed for a composed 53.
However, there was no stopping former Scotland batsman Watts who stroked a brilliant 113 as Carlton posted 278-7.
Dale’s reply suffered an early blow when Mo Awais was trapped in front by Michael Herdman and the visiting bowlers went on to dominate, claiming wickets at regular intervals.
There was late resistance from the cup holders but they never threatened the target.
Heriot’s avoided a disaster at Hamilton Crescent where underdogs West of Scotland were poised to produce the shock of the round.
Having made a modest 135, Western Division One side West reduced the Eastern Premier high-flyers to 95-9.
However, Heriot’s last pair held their nerve to knock off the remaining 41 runs and break West’s hearts.
Poloc dominated their all-Western Premier clash with Ferguslie where the home side were bundled out for 117.
Former Ferguslie spinner Hamza Tahir did the bulk of the damage with 6-17 before 56no from Owais Shah secured an eight-wicket win for Poloc.
Elsewhere, Grange proved too strong for Prestwick, winning by seven wickets at the Henry Thow Oval.
