ARBROATH will today aim to build on their bright start to the campaign by snuffing out the challenge of newly-promoted SMRH - and dedicate any success to the club’s newborn mascot.
Hamish Burnett came into the world as the team were claiming the scalp of Falkland last weekend.
And captain Marc Petrie admitted the continuation of the club’s Burnett dynasty had come as a huge lift to everyone at Lochlands.
Proud dad Fraser will sit out this afternoon’s home-turf tussle and Petrie said: “We are all thrilled for him and partner Berni.
“It is great that we have a fresh generation of Burnetts in our midst.”
Petrie confirmed that Jack Waller will replace Blair Carnegie and stated: “SMRH will be full of intent to get a win under their belts as quickly as possible.
“We certainly won’t be underestimating them, despite their inexperience at this level.”
Petrie himself is still injured, so Ross McLean keeps the skipper’s armband.
Falkland, meanwhile, are bidding to waste no time in bouncing back by getting the better of Fife neighbours Glenrothes, who launched their campaign in sparkling style by outgunning champions Carlton.
It promises to be an intriguing derby at Scroggie Park, with visiting Scotland star Safyaan Sharif squaring up to his former team-mates.
His successor as Falkland skipper, Stuart Campbell, declared: “We are focussing on building on the positives from last weekend’s performance.
“We have had to make a few changes to our line-up because of work and exam commitments.
“The big boost is the return of Harsha Cooray from Aberdeenshire, while there are also call ups for Adam Ferguson, Ryan Hepburn and Craig Hepburn.”
Sharif will lead an unchanged side. He said: “If we get the basics right we will have a good chance of keeping up the momentum from our opening-day victory.
“But Falkland will be a big threat if we drop our guard.”
Forfarshire player-coach Chris Greaves will be greatly motivated to inspire his side when they go head to head with Heriot’s at Forthill.
The Broughty Ferry boys crashed at home to Aberdeenshire in a remarkable high-scoring encounter.
Greaves then smashed a brilliant century for the Highlanders, only for the Eastern Knights to steal the glory.
Forfarshire captain Umair Mohammed said: “We know Heriot's will be a handful, but we have a young and keen squad with lots of ability.”
Andrew Wallace is unavailable, so rookie Jack Hogarth is included.
Elsewhere, Carlton have skipper Ali Evans back for the capital derby with Grange at Grange Loan.
And Aberdeenshire will be in confident mood when Watsonians head for Mannofield.
