It will be the side’s first experience under new leadership, with Heather Siegers – just back from a successful winter in Perth – taking over the captaincy from Esther de Lange, who recently took up a development post with ICC Europe in London.
The Dutch will also be missing another of its most experienced players in Miranda Veringmeier, who is injured, as well as Sterre Kalis, who has elected to play all her representative cricket for Essex this season, and Juliët Post, who had the great misfortune to break her ankle stepping on a ball during the squad’s pre-season training camp over Easter.
They will, however, be boosted by the return of Leonie Bennett, back after recovering from an ankle ligament reconstruction and three years out of the side.
The side also includes Jolien van Vliet, the first graduate of Kampong Utrecht’s Road to Perth initiative, who returned to Western Australia over the winter for three months at the Perth Cricket Academy.
Although it is still a young squad many of its members already have several seasons of county cricket behind them, and Siegers and coach Sean Trouw will be hoping that they give a good account of themselves in the reorganised ECB 50-over championship.
