Kenya have beaten Nepal on their own turf in a rain hit World Cricket League Championship contest at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

With Paras Khadka injured, Gyanendra Malla took the captaincy reigns for Nepal in a match that was reduced by rain initially to 38 overs. Kenyan captain Rakep Patel won the toss and chose to field first, with the Kenyan bowlers soon getting on top of the Nepal batting line up.

Wickets were falling regularly, with no two batsmen able to put on anything approaching a useful partnership. Shakti Gauchan and Sompal Kami put on 30 for the ninth wicket at a point at which Nepal looked like being bowled out for under 100.

Rain came again after 36 overs with the score on 112-8, ending the Nepal innings. Malla top scored with 27, whilst Shem Ngoche was the pick of the Kenyan bowlers, taking 3-18 with his left-arm spin.

Initially given a target of 104 from 29 overs, Kenya initially looked to be progressing in similar fashion to the home side, with the top three all out within the first seven overs with the score on 21. But Collins Obuya and Rakep Patel were able to get the reply back on track with a 44 run partnership for the fourth wicket before Obuya was out for 24.

A further rain delay occurred in the 22nd over, Kenya's score on 79-5, and on the resumption, Kenya were given a new target of 94 from 26 overs. They needed 17 more balls, Rakep Patel hitting a six to score the winning runs and take his score to 34 with no more wickets lost.

The teams will meet again on Monday, where a win for Kenya will see them climb to second in the table.
