Bangladesh were never under pressure as they cruised to a 7 wicket victory against Scotland at CCC Columbo today.

Chasing an under par Scottish total of 140 they completed the job with over twelve overs to spare.

Batting first Keri Anderson was again Scotland’s top scorer with 28 as the Wildcats battled to set Bangladesh a target of 141 for victory

Scotland started their innings slowly, losing an early wicket when Sarah Bryce was caught behind and struggled to find any momentum as the Bangladesh bowlers kept things tight.

With Scotland regrouping and a scoring rate of barely two runs an over a 50 partnership between Rachel Scholes and Keri Anderson brought hope that a defendable target was possible.

That partnership was ended however when Scholes chopped one on in the 32nd over and when Anderson went lbw a few overs later the Scots were struggling at 95 for 5 with 15 overs of the innings remaining.

As wickets continued to fall it looked as if Scotland would not bat out the innings but in the end they hung on to raise the score to 140 before the final wicket fell with only 5 balls of their 50 overs unused.

In the Bangladesh reply the Scottish opening bowlers Katie McGill and Kathryn Bryce each picked up a wicket but were unable to slow the scoring rate which at 4 an over was more than the required rate.

The score had been taken to 68 before the third wicket fell when opener Sharmin Akhter was spectacularly caught in the gully by Kirstie Gordon off the bowling of Rachel Scholes.

The partnership between Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed then proved decisive as they firstly dampened any hopes of a Scottish revival and then progressed smoothly to the win, Hoque completing her 50 off 109 balls and Ahmed finishing unbeaten on 38.

Not enough runs from Scotland to put any sort of pressure on Bangladesh who cruised to victory in only 37.3 overs.

They need to beat PNG on Saturday to keep their Super Six hopes alive.

Result:

Scotland 140/10 (49.1 overs) K Anderson 28, Kubra 3-31, Khatun 3-21

Bangladesh 143/3 (37.3 overs) F Hoque 53*, R Ahmed 38*
