Hosts USA have won Division Four of the World Cricket League for the second time after beating Oman in the final yesterday at Woodley Park in Los Angeles.
USA chose to bat first after captain Steven Taylor won the toss, USA quickly found themselves in trouble with the first three wickets lost with just five runs on the board. Taylor could only manage seven before he was out, and the USA were struggling on 31-4.
Alex Amsterdam managed to play something of an anchor role, scoring 50, and the USA were also helped by a clubbing 45 from 32 balls by Timroy Allen. Jasdeep Singh also chipped in with an unbeaten 37 at number 10 to take the USA total to 208 before the last wicket fell two balls from the end of their innings.
The break saw the team get the opportunity to meet Mick Jagger, who came to watch the game and posed for a photo with the USA squad and wished them well.
In reply Oman were looking like chasing down the target with Zeeshan Siddiqui settled in on 58 and Oman on 154-5 with 12.3 overs still to come. But Siddiqui's dismissal saw the run rate drop as the USA bowlers tightened the screws.
Oman batted out their overs and scored 195-9, losing by 13 runs. Jasdeep Singh and Timil Patel both took three wickets for the home side.
In the third place play-off, Denmark batted first after winning the toss against Bermuda. They lost Saif Ahmad early on, but a second wicket partnership of 54 between Aftab Ahmed and Anders Bulow got them off to a good start.
Taranjit Bharaj, playing his first game for Denmark, top scored for them with an unbeaten 68 as Denmark scored 269-8 from their 50 overs.
In reply, Bermuda's first three wickets were lost for 50 runs, all taken by Amjad Khan, who finished with 3-14. After that, Bermuda seemed to give up any attempt to chase the target, though Jordan DeSilva did manage to score an unbeaten 52 from 44 balls.
Bermuda reached 225-8 from their 50 overs, losing by 44 runs.
