Jersey recorded a historic one-run win over hosts USA, but it wassn't enough to stave off relegation in the final round-robin game of the Division Five tournament in Los Angeles.
The Channel Islanders set the USA a challenging target of 250, but the match turned into a game within a game with the US adopting a safety-first approach to ensure their NRR would be enough to ensure promotion even if they lost.
Jersey openers Nat Watkins (69) and Peter Gough (32) shared an opening stand of 94 in just 103 balls with Watkins the dominant partner striking 11 fours and a six in his 57 ball knock.
Prasant Nair (3-42) checked the Jersey momentum before an enterprising 5th wicket stand between teenager Jonty Jenner and Tony Hawkins-Kay swung the match back towards Jersey.
The pair added 82 in just 69 deliveries to take Jersey to 206 for 4 with 12 overs remaining.
Jenner had reached 57 from 53 balls (6 fours, 1 six) when he was controversially dismissed - an Allen full toss ruled to have been below waist height by umpire Cross - much to the chagrin of Jenner and the Jersey camp.
Jersey had at that point looked on course to post 300 - a total which could well have saved their Div 4 status. As it was, Allen (3-52) ensured Jersey were dismissed for only 249.
Watkins (3-35) reduced USA to 60 for 3 with Taylor (13), Babar (18) and Syed (20) all dismissed.
Alex Amsterdam and Akeem Dodson then took USA past their first target of 131 to gain promotion before Dodson's obdurate vigil of 16 from 62 balls was ended.
That was the catalyst for USA to press the accelerator as they went for the win.
Amsterdam's maiden century saw him make 102 from 98 balls (8 fours, 1 six) but when he fell, 50 were still required from just four overs.
Allen (35) and Hutchinson (16*) both cleared the ropes twice to leave the equation as just six needed from the last over.
Charles Perchard proved the Jersey hero as he restricted the USA to just four - the home side goings for the glory shot instead of nurdling their way to the win.
The one-run win was wildly celebrated by Jersey - some consolation for their relegation.
They finish today with the 5th-6th place match against Italy - the sides will meet again in Division Five next year.
