The final day of World Cricket League Division 4 round robin play saw Oman beat Denmark in a promotion battle, whilst Italy were able to pick up a first ever win against Bermuda.
The promotion battle between Oman and Denmark at Severn Field saw Denmark win the toss and choose to bowl first. The early part of Oman's innings was built around Khawar Ali, who stayed in whilst wickets were falling around him.
Basit Raja took three of the first five wickets to fall as Oman found themselves on 62-5. Once captain Ajay Lalcheta joined him at the crease, Oman managed to get back into the game, with the pair putting on 97 before Ali was out for 74.
The score at that point was 159-6, and the last four wickets managed to add another 30 to the total before Oman were bowled out. Lalcheta scored 62 before he was caught behind off the bowling of Aftab Ahmed. Ahmed took 4-30, whilst Basit Javed took 4-32.
Denmark's reply lacked the significant partnership that Oman had, as Denmark struggled against Oman's spinners. Khawar Ali completed a fine all round performance by taking 5-37, whilst Zeeshan Maqsood was almost unplayable, going for just 15 runs from his ten overs.
Denmark were bowled out 146 to lose by 43 runs, seeing Oman secure promotion to Division Three. Denmark could have still had a chance, but news soon came through from the neighbouring ground that USA had scored enough to pass Denmark on NRR no matter what the final result in that match.
Over on the Wright field, Bermuda had put Italy in to bat after they won the toss. Italy's top 8 all reached double figures, Manpreet Singh top scoring with 45, as the Italians reached 228-8 from their 50 overs. Delray Rawlins, who earlier that day saw Sussex announce that he had signed a one year contract, was the pick of the bowlers with 2-21.
Bermuda still had a hypothetical chance of promotion if they chased down their target very quickly, but once Kuamu Leverock was out in the fifth over, they instead attempted to chase slowly. They couldn't score quickly enough to even win though, as they could only manage 203-9 from their 50 overs, losing by 25 runs.
The win was Italy's first against Bermuda at their fourth attempt, but it was scant consolation for what has been a pretty disappointing performance. They will play Jersey in the fifth place play-off later today. USA will play Oman in the final, whilst Denmark will play Bermuda in the third place play-off.
