Denmark and hosts USA have both recorded big wins on the opening day of Division Four of the World Cricket League in Los Angeles.
Hosts USA were taking on Bermuda on the Severn Field at Woodley Park, with the visitors choosing to bat first after winning the toss. After losing opener Steven Bremar for a duck early on, Bermuda recovered with a 55 run partnership between captain Oliver Pitcher and Tre Manders.
Pitcher was the second man out with the score on 65, and Manders fell soon afterwards to a superb one handed diving catch by US wicketkeeper Akeem Dodson. Dion Stovell then set about playing an anchor role, but nobody was able to stay with him for a significant period.
Timil Patel proved to be particularly hard for the Bermudian batsmen to play, as he took 5-29 as Bermuda were bowled out for 201 in the 49th over. Stovell was the top scorer with 56, and Pitcher's 30 was the only other score of note.
The hosts had little problem with their target, starting with a 75 run opening partnership between Steven Taylor and Fahad Babar, which ended when Taylor was out for 56 from 42 balls. Ravi Timbawala then joined Babar at the crease and they put on 95 for the second wicket before Timbawala was run out for 41.
Babar and Timroy Allen then guided the US to their eight wicket victory, Babar finishing unbeaten on 70.
Over on the Wright field, Denmark batted first after being put in by Italy. Freddie Klokker and Aftab Ahmed opened with a 44 run partnership, scoring 28 and 26 respectively. Number three Zameer Khan scored 29, but Denmark found themselves on the back foot, at one point losing three wickets - all taken by Carl Sandri - for just seven runs to leave them on 140-6.
Hamid Shah and Yasir Iqbal then put on 70 for the seventh wicket before Shah was out for Denmark's top score of 58. Iqbal reached 44 before he was out in the final over of their innings, and Denmark's final score was 214-8.
Italy struggled in reply, with only two of their batsmen able to reach double figures. Carl Sandri top scored with 59 and Gian Meade scored 11. One time England Test bowler Amjad Khan turned back the clock to take 3-23, but Bashir Shah was the pick of the bowlers with 4-18. Italy were bowled out for 100 and lost by 114 runs.
