Jersey's World Cricket League ambitions were dealt a severe blow this week with the news that pivotal all-arounder Ben Stevens has been ruled out of the Division Four tournament in Los Angeles.

Stevens, who has played an influential role in Jersey's previous WCL triumphs, misses out due to unspecified medical issues.

15-year-old schoolboy Harrison Carlyon is called into the squad and will make island history by being the youngest international for Jersey if selected - that record is currently held by fellow squad member Jonty Jenner who made his debut aged just 16.

Carlyon is one of two changes to the squad which won Division Five on home soil in June - Eliot Miles is the other, with Corne Bodenstein missing out.

Jersey coach Neil MacRae spoke to the BBC about the squad and had no qualms about giving teenager Carlyon a call-up:

"We've had a principle over the past three years of giving young players opportunities and Harrison's done well with the games he's been involved with in the second half of the season.

"It'll be great experience for him coming out with the squad to Los Angeles as part of his development, but also he'll be ready if called upon."

MacRae accepted the loss of Stevens was a major blow but felt others would help fill the gap.

"Ben has had a couple of medical issues that he's been dealing with and we're pleased that he's on the road to recovery and we look forward to welcoming him back soon.

"He's been a star player as a left-handed top-order batter and a left-arm spin bowler. But it's also a big opportunity for some of the younger players to establish themselves."

Jersey take on the USA, Bermuda, Denmark, Italy, and Oman with the top two sides gaining promotion.

The Jersey squad in full is as follows:

Peter Gough (capt), Corey Bisson, Harrison Carlyon, Jonty Jenner, Elliot Miles, Rhys Palmer, Ben Kynman, Charles Perchard, Robert McBey, Nat Watkins, William Harris, Jake Dunford, Luke Gallichan, Anthony Hawkins-Kay.
