Jersey have secure the 2016 World Cricket League Division 5 title with a 44 run win over Oman at the final at Grainville today.

On a cloudy morning, Oman captain Ajay Lalcheta won the toss and didn't hesitate to put the home side in to bat. Peter Gough and Nat Watkins opted for a much more cautious approach than against Nigeria yesterday, putting on 37 before Gough was bowled by Rajesh Ranpura in the 11th over.

Four wickets fell in relatively quick succession as Jersey found themselves on the back foot on 51-4 with all of the top four out. Cornelius Bodenstein and Anthony Hawkins-Kay then began painstakingly building a partnership to help get Jersey back into the game. Runs were hard to come by at first for Bodenstein, who took 31 balls to get off the mark.

But as the Omani bowlers became frustrated, the runs started to come and the pair were able to put on 46 for the fifth wicket before Bodenstein was caught behind for 15. Hawkins-Kay and Corey Bisson then helped get Jersey towards a respectable total, putting on 71 for the sixth wicket before Bisson was out for 35.

Hawkins-Kay batted on, eventually making an unbeaten 60 as Jersey scored 194-7 from their 50 overs. Rajesh Ranpura was the pick of the Omani bowlers with 3-21.

Oman got their reply off to a flyer as Zeeshan Maqsood took a liking to Anthony Hawkins-Kay and Robert McBey, smashing 43 from 22 balls within the first five overs before falling to a superb return catch off the bowling of Hawkins-Kay. The Oman run scoring then dried up as they took another 24 overs to score the same number of runs as they scored in the first five. Charles Perchard bowled superbly throughout this period, bowling his ten overs straight through for just 14 runs.

An awkward partnership of 42 for the seventh wicket between Swapnil Khadye and Noorul Riaz gave Jersey some jitters, but once that partnership was ended, the rest collapsed from there. Ben Kynman came back into the attack and took two more wickets to finish with 4-10 from his 8 overs.

Oman were bowled out for 150 to lose by 44 runs. Peter Gough thanked the home fans for their support during the presentation, and a crowd of approximately 350 turned up to watch the game.

Over at Farmer's Field meanwhile, Guernsey batted first in the crucial third place play-off after losing the toss. After they lost both openers early on, Matt Stokes and Ollie Newey put together a partnership of 108 for the third wicket. Stokes went on to top score with 82 as Guernsey scored 230-6 from their 50 overs.

Vanuatu managed to get close in reply, Nalin Nipiko top scoring with 68 before being bowled by Luke Nussbaumer, who took 4-43. Their final total was 211, losing by 19 runs. Guernsey now keep their Division 5 position, whilst Vanuatu will join Nigeria and Tanzania back in regional competitions.

Nigeria and Tanzania played in the fifth place play-off over at FB Fields, with Tanzania rounding out winners by 1 wicket in a match that was only won with one ball to spare.
