Rain has played spoilsport at Grainville today as Jersey's match against Oman was abandoned due to rain after nine overs of the Jersey run chase.
Rain had already delayed the start earlier on what was a pretty miserable day throughout. Once the rain cleared and the covers were removed, Jersey captain Peter Gough won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Oman lost Khawar Ali early in ther innings as he edged to the keeper. Zeeshan Maqsood and Vaibhav Wategaonkar were able to put on 31 for the second wicket before Maqsood was caught in the deep attempting one big shot too many.
Wategaonkar and Singh put on 31, but the run scoring slowed down as the Jersey spinners put a stranglehold on the Omani batsmen. It was a seamer though - in the shape of Charles Perchard - who was the pick of the Jersey bowlers with 3-17 from his four overs. The final total for Oman was a reasonably competitive - given the conditions - 132.
After a brief interval, the Jersey chase began, with Peter Gough and Jonty Jenner looking in good nick, Jenner in particular playing some lovely looking shots.
It was Jenner who was the first to fall though, trapped lbw by Aamir Kaleem having scored 25 from 23 balls. The rain - which had been getting heavier throughout the Jersey reply - became heavy enough for the umpires to take the players off, and the game was abandoned shortly after.
In the battle between the two African teams at Farmer's Field, the match was restricted to 28 overs. Tanzania scored slowly, making 115-8 from their 28 overs. Nigeria knocked off the runs with 2.1 overs to spare, winning by 6 wickets. Ademola Onikoy led the way for them with an unbeaten 68.
The match between Guernsey and Vanuatu at FB Fields was also a shortened affair. Vanuatu batted first after Guernsey captain Jamie Nussbaumer won the toss, and scored 127-7 from their 26 overs. Guernsey managed to get 20 overs in during the rain and ran out winners by four wickets on Duckworth/Lewis.
