DEFIANT Preston Mommsen believes national pride can spur Scotland to a first-ever win at a global tournament.

The Scots go into a dead rubber against Hong Kong in Nagpur after defeats to Afghanistan and Zimbabwe snuffed-out hopes of progressing to the glamour Super 10 phase.

However, after twenty defeats at World Cups over the years, Mommsen insists his men have every incentive to break their tournament duck.

He said: “There's still a lot to look forward to – the shackles are off and we can express ourselves and I'm sure we will do.

“It is very, very important to go back home with a win and to break the run of having no wins in twenty.

“Although there's nothing concrete to play for, in terms of Scottish pride and getting a win on the board there is a lot to play for. We'll be taking the game very seriously to try to get a win.”

Mommsen, though, could not conceal his frustration that his team will be heading home early.

He added: “We obviously came here with big goals but it wasn't to be and that is very disappointing.

“We're not exposed to enough of this and it's important that we have been here and have been part of the experience.

“It's only the second global tournament this group of players has been at and we try to soak in as much as we can of playing under pressure and in front of crowds.

“The Hong Kong game is another opportunity to play a good strong, competitive T20 international at a good venue. We don't get these opportunities often so we'll look forward to it.”

The Scots are considering changes to their line-up with Leicestershire all-rounder Rob Taylor and Durham youngster Gavin Main in contention for tournament debuts.
