Interview with Ireland's Coach John Bracewell
Barry Chambers: John a bit of a disappointing loss last night, but the games come thick and fast. A chance to bounce back against Bangladesh tomorrow?
John Bracewell: Yes I think first of all it was disappointing. I think games of Cricket go like that. We got ourselves into a really good position, fought back, I was really, in the main I was probably about 90% delighted with the way we went about our business. So yes I mean it puts us in a difficult position.
But it doesn't put us in an impossible one. But we knew we had to win three games. Now with the draw the way it is, Bangladesh tomorrow, we have to narrow the gap, in terms of beating them. So forcing teams to win only two. And then it comes down to the, ironically, The Netherlands Game!
Barry Chambers: We've been there before!
John Bracewell: Where it will all come down to run rate. Because I think, The Netherlands side is a good side, and I think they probably will tip over Oman, and you know, we could all end up on twos, or the possibility of twos. So it will come down to that game, should we win and play well tomorrow.
Barry Chambers: The mood in the camp was very down last night. But you've certainly done a very good job lifting the spirits today. The players look pretty focused?
John Bracewell: Yes, I mean that's the nature of Tournament play. They're pretty experienced to be honest. And whilst we were all devastated at the loss. And perhaps even the nature of the loss was quite a shock. You know the two guys who had been banking it right throughout practices and in pressure situations, it sort of hit us like a bit of a shot between the eyes. And I think everybody was a little bit devastated.
But William, to be fair, put it in perspective straight away when he came back from the news conference. And you've got to give him credit, because he has to front up to all sorts of people immediately after a devastation. You know whereas we can sit back and reflect a little bit. He's got to give immediate replies, under pressure.
And he not only conducted himself brilliantly through the media, but he came back into the side and bang and hit reality straight away. He said this is not over fellas. It just means we've got to win tomorrow, and then we'll see where we are. And everybody went, yeah fair dues. And that's a sign of great leadership, in my opinion. And so it started at that point. Then it becomes easy for the management group to start managing from that more optimistic perspective, rather than the pessimistic one.
Barry Chambers: And the Squad, will you think of any changes, you're going to have the selection meeting tonight, is it too early or will you think of maybe bringing one or two players in?
John Bracewell: Well it's, I mean to be fair I think we played pretty well. And as I said, you know when you're only losing the game because of two overs - that happens in 20/20 Cricket.
