GEORGE Munsey is convinced Scotland can rekindle their T20 World Cup hopes against Zimbabwe.

The Scots slumped to an opening day defeat against bogey team Afghanistan on Tuesday – despite a sparkling opening stand between Munsey and Kyle Coetzer.

It leaves them playing catch-up in a group they must win to qualify for the glamour Super Ten phase.

Big-hitting Grange star Munsey said: “It was a massive disappointment against Afghanistan because it was a game we all felt we should have won.”

Munsey and Coetzer gave Scotland the perfect start in their pursuit of a target of 159 when they put on 84 for the first wicket.

But both players fell in quick succession in the forties and the Scots fell 14 runs short.

Munsey added: “If myself or Kyle could have gone on and made 70 the result would probably have been different.

“But we'll re-group for tomorrow where we will face a stern test from a decent Zimbabwe side.

“We now have two must-win games.”

Defeat today would see the Scots eliminated before Saturday's concluding group game against Hong Kong and coach Grant Bradburn may tweak his side for the Zimbabwe test.

Recent Somerset signing Michael Leask and Leicestershire's Rob Taylor will come into contention as Bradburn looks to beef-up a middle order which failed to capitalise on the start provided by Munsey and Coetzer.

The Scots will come up against two familiar faces in former Ayr star Sikander Raza and ex-Ferguslie pro Malcolm Waller who helped Zimbabwe secure victory over Hong Kong on Tuesday.
