Disappointed Murtagh Confident That Well Prepared Ireland Will be Ready for Oman

Tim Murtagh was disappointed that Ireland lost today's final Warm Up game for the World T20 today.

However, he also knows that Ireland have done some great work together in the past months and believes they are properly prepared for what is to come when the Tournament begins properly on Wednesday.

Having missed out on playing in the recent Fifty Over World Cup in Australia through injury, Murtagh is really looking forward to performing at the top level with Ireland.

Barry Chambers: Tim disappointing, but I suppose it's all about preparation for the real action which starts on Wednesday?

Tim Murtagh: Yeah it was. It is always disappointing to lose. In an ideal world you want to into Tournaments, on the back of two or three wins, and you know and take the confidence from that. But I don't think we can dwell on it too much.

We've done some good things in the last couple of months. So we're pretty confident going into Wednesday, and we're looking forward to that now. It's been good practices. As you say, the result wasn't quite what we wanted today. But I think that's more of the kind of cricket we're going to come up against in the main part of the Tournament. So I think that will hold us in good stead in the long term.

Barry Chambers: And what's it like bowling on these wickets?

Tim Murtagh: Yeah it's, the other night it was sort of nice. It swung around under the floodlights, our first two games are under lights. So I think it will do a little bit more through the air.

Obviously today being a day game, didn't quite do as much. But yeah, it's still pretty good wickets. Sort of when the lights come on and the dew comes on, it kind of skids on quite nicely to the bat. And I think there's going to be some pretty exciting games to come.

Barry Chambers: And what's it like in the bowling unit having Boyd Rankin back on board with you?

Tim Murtagh: Yeah it's great, it gives us another dimension. A lot has been spoken about that. And a bit of experience as well, he's played a lot of cricket now. He's into his thirties, the wrong side of thirty. So yeah it's great to have him back in the camp. And he's slotted in pretty well.

Barry Chambers: And for yourself it must be great to be here, having missed out on Australia through injury, to finally be at a World Event?

Tim Murtagh: Yeah touch wood, nothing happens in the next few days. Yeah I've kind of targeted this World Cup almost since the injury nightmare that I had last year. So I'm really looking forward to it. I feel in a good place with my game. So there's some exciting times to come.

Barry Chambers: And what do you think, Oman next up on Wednesday, a dangerous side it seems, they beat Scotland yesterday. So they're going to certainly be no pushovers?

Tim Murtagh: Yeah definitely, you know everyone's talking about Bangladesh in our Group being the kind of crunch game. But Oman and Holland, Holland beat us last time in the T20 World Cup out in Bangladesh. So they're going to be tough as well. But yeah, looking at the first game Oman, we don't know a massive amount about them.

We'll sort of do our research next three or four days. Because they've obviously got some talented Cricketers, and will be a threat, and Twenty 20 brings them closer to us, I suppose, in terms of potential upsets and stuff like that. So we'll have to be on our metal and well prepared, which we will be on Wednesday.
