In the battle to avoid the wooden spoon between Canada and Fiji - with neither team having a win before today - it was the Canadians who came out on top in a low scoring match today in Cox's Bazar.

Canada won the toss and chose to field first. They only needed to use four bowlers to bowl the Pacific islanders out, with Miraj Patel the best of the bunch with 4-16. Fiji had started with an opening partnership of 26, but lost four wickets for three runs to leave them reeling on 29-4.

A few double figure partnerships helped them reach 83 before they were bowled out, but that was never likely to be enough against the Canadians.

Akash Gill and Amish Taploo put on 58 for the first wicket in the Canadian reply before Taploo was caught and bowled by Sosiceni Weleilakeba for 12. Gill finished the reply unbeaten on 38 as Canada completed an eight wicket win before the scheduled interval.

The tournament hasn't been a particularly successful one for either team, with both having been unimpressive throughout. It was a voyage into the unknown for Fiji, who upset Papua New Guinea in regional qualifying, but Canada's performance is perhaps indicative of the seemingly unending decline of the Americas region.
