Afghanistan have become the second associate side to beat New Zealand in this year's Under-19 World Cup as they won by 8 wickets in the plate semi-final.

Batting first after winning the toss, New Zealand lost Glenn Phillips for a duck in the first over, with opening partner Rachin Ravindra being caught and bowled soon afterwards. A flurry of top order wickets saw New Zealand find themselves on 35 when the sixth wicket fell in the 19th over.

The lower middle order led a recovery of sorts, with Aniket Parikh and Nathan Smith putting on 57 for the eighth wicket before the former was out for 48, the top score of the New Zealand innings. Shamsurrahman and Rashid Khan both took three wickets as the Afghans bowled their opponents out for just 135.

Afghanistan had little trouble chasing down their target. They'd reached 67-1 when the interval took place after 14 overs of their innings, with Ihsanullah and Tariq Stanikzai the not out batsmen at that point. That pair put on 68 for the second wicket before Ihsanullah was out for 47.

Stanikzai was able to reach his fifty before Afghanistan completed the win with no more wickets lost. They reached their target in the 28th over to win by 8 wickets. They will now play Zimbabwe in the plate final on Friday.
