Afghanistan have completed a 226 run win over Fiji today in Cox's Bazaar to secure their place in the Under-19 World Cup plate competition semi-finals.

Put into bat after Fijian captain Saimoni Tuitoga won the toss, Afghanistan had a 40 run partnership for the first wicket between Karim Janat and Ihsanullah to start the innings. Peni Vuniwaqa had Ihsanullah caught and bowled in the sixth over, and removed the next two batsmen soon afterwards, leaving Afghanistan on 47-3.

Janat then shared in a 130 run partnership for the fourth wicket with Perwez Malakzai, the partnership ending when Malakzai was dismissed for 74. Janat batted on, reaching 156 - the highest Under-19 ODI score by an associate player - when he was finally out in the 47th over.

The final Afghan total was 340-9 from their 50 overs. Peni Vuniwaqa was the pick of the Fijian bowlers with 3-41.

Fiji's reply started badly when Delaimatuku Maraiwai edged to the keeper from the first ball, and didn't really get much better. They were on 18-5 at the end of the tenth over, before a fifty run partnership for the sixth wicket gave them a little more respectability.

They were eventually bowled out for 114, with Nijat Masood and Rashid Khan both taking three wickets.

Fiji will now play Scotland in the 13th place semi-finals on Sunday, whilst Afghanistan will play New Zealand in the plate semi-finals on Monday.
