Glenn Phillips boundary blitz propelled New Zealand to a seven wicket win over Scotland in their 9th place quarter-final clash in Bangladesh.
The Kiwi opener struck 11 boundaries and cleared the ropes six times in a whirlwind innings of 89 from just 40 balls.
Phillips blitzkrieg ensured New Zealand romped to seven wicket win with 24 overs to spare as they made light work of a potentially tricky target of 181.
He totally dominated an opening stand of 98 with Daniel Stanley whose contribution was only 9.
Harris Aslam (2-37) was the stand-out Scottish bowler, with Mitchell Rao (1-28) the other successful wicket-taker.
Christian Leopard (25), Finn Allen (31*), and Josh Finnie (30*) all chipped in as the Kiwis completed an easy win.
Earlier it was a case of the Scottish batters all getting starts but none being able to produce a truly dominant display in their total of 181 for 9.
No fewer than eight reached double figures, with Owais Shah top scoring with 32. There were also useful contributions from Jack Waller (24), Ryan Brown (23), Neil Flack (22) and Harris Aslam (21).
Ross Ter Braak (3-34) was the pick of the New Zealand attack.
Kiwi skipper Josh Finnie said it was a good start for his team in the Plate championship.
“It's nice to get off to a good start,” he said, “We bowled pretty well and picked up wickets at the right time.
“Then Glenn smashed a quick-fire 89 chasing a small target, which was a good way to go about it. Hopefully, we will continue the same way and get through to the final.”
Scotland captain Neil Flack conceded New Zealand played better and deserved to win, but his team too could take some positives from the game.
“We showed we can bat 50 overs against a good side,” he said. “We need to keep developing and make sure we finish the tournament on a high.”
Scotland now face either Afghanistan or Fiji in the 13th play-off placings contest later in the week.
