Fiji's baptism of fire at this level continued today with a third big defeat at the Under-19 World Cup, this time against the West Indies in Chittagong.

The West Indies batted first after Fijian captain Saimoni Tuitoga won the toss and put them in. They raced to 120 before the first wicket fell in the 18th over when Tevin Imlach was bowled by Cakacaka Tikoisuva. Three more quick wickets followed, including Gidron Pope for 76, and the West Indies were on 140-4 in the 23rd over.

Shamar Springer and Jyd Goolie then put on 157 for the fifth wicket before Goolie was out for 66. Springer lasted until the final over to score 106 before he was bowled by Tikoisuva. Another wicket fell before the innings finished, giving Tikoisuva figures of 6-59.

The final total for the West Indies was 340-7, giving them a good chance of recording their first win in the tournament.

Only two Fijian batsmen were able to reach double figures in their reply, Peni Vuniwaqa top scoring with 29. Gideon Pope was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, taking 4-24 to complete a 262 run win.

For Fiji, the group stage is now over, and they will take part in the plate competition. With them assured of last place in the group, they will play their plate quarter final against the third place team in group B (either Afghanistan or Canada) on Friday. The West Indies have a group match against Zimbabwe left to play on Tuesday, with the winners of that qualifying for the quarter final.
