Canada's Under-19 World Cup campaign continued today with a second defeat, this time to Pakistan at the Sylhet District Stadium.
Batting first after winning the toss, Canada lost Thursaanth Anantharajah cheaply in the second over, but there was no early collapse as Bhavindu Adhihetty and Amish Taploo put on 60 for the second wicket. The partnership ended when Taploo was out for 28.
Number four Akash Gill was out shortly afterwards, but Adhihetty shared in another substantial partnership, this time for the fourth wicket with his captain Abraash Khan. The pair put on 49 before Adhihetty was stumped for 51, whilst Khan went on to score 44.
Those were the only substantial scores though, as the Canadians were bowled out for 178. Hasan Khan was the pick of the bowlers with 3-36.
Pakistan had little trouble chasing down their target, and Zeeshan Malik led the way with an unbeaten 89 at the top of the order. He shared in a 108 run partnership for the third wicket with Saif Badar, who scored 44. The seven wicket win was completed in the 41st over.
Canada will next play in Monday when they take on Afghanistan, whilst Pakistan will wait until Wednesday for their next match, when they play Sri Lanka.
