It was always likely to be tough for Fiji in their maiden Under-19 World Cup appearance. But they wouldn't have expected it to be this tough as they crashed to a 299 run defeat against a dominant England side.

England chose to bat first after winning the toss at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong. There was a brief moment of hope for Fiji when opener Max Holden was dismissed for three in the third over, but England took the game away from the Pacific Islanders from then on.

Dan Lawrence and Jack Burnham put on a mammoth 303 run partnership for the second wicket - the first 300 plus partnership in Under-19 ODIs. It didn't end until Jack Charters bowled Burnham for 148 in the 47th over.

Lawrence - one of the youngest players to score a County Championship century was out four balls from the end of the England innings having scored 174 - the fourth highest Under-19 ODI score and highest for England. The final England total was 371-3.

Unsurprisingly, Fiji struggled in their reply. Saqib Mahmood and Sam Curran tore through the top order, taking 3-2 and 3-22 respectively. Peni Vuniwaqa and Jack Charters were the only Fijians to reach double figures with 36 and 10 respectively as they were bowled out for 72, losing by 299 runs.

England's next match is against the West Indies on Friday, whilst Fiji will play Zimbabwe, also on Friday.
