IRELAND U19'S LOSE WARM-UP MATCH AGAINST CANADA

Ireland's under-19's suffered a second consecutive World Cup warm-up defeat in Savar on Monday when a disappointing batting collapse saw them lose by four wickets to Canada.

Jack Tector and Stephen Doheny gave Ryan Eagleson's side a perfect platform with an opening stand of 88 in 14 overs before the Canadians struck back impressively through Kurt Ramdath.

The left arm spinner provided the breakthrough by removing Doheny for 34 and then ran through the top order to finish with figures of 5-24 in his 10 overs. Only Andrew Austin (10) managed to get into double figures in the middle order as Ramdath kept Ireland pinned back.

Skipper Tector was proving much more difficult to dislodge but he ploughed a lone furrow at times as Ireland lost seven wickets for just 39 runs after their excellent start.

The YMCA teenager hit 8 fours and a six in his knock of 83 before younger brother, Harry, chipped in with a very valuable 37 at number nine that allowed the Irish boys to rally towards the end before finally dismissed for 197 in the 46th over of a contest reduced to 47 a side because of fog.

Tom Stanton and an early run-out gave Ireland a good start in the field but opener Thursaanth Anantharajah made a very composed 46 to settle the Canadians.

Merrion left armer Tom Stanton (2-46), Gary McClintock (1-23) and Harry Tector (1-28) also made inroads into the batting order; however just as Tector had done earlier, skipper Abreesh Khan played a captain's role with a brilliant 93 not out (9 fours, 2 sixes) that allowed his side to seal the win with eight balls remaining.

Ireland begin the tournament in earnest on Thursday against tournament favourites India in a contest that will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
