After Peter Borren's 96 saw the Dutch extend a 151-run first innings lead Shaiman Anwar struck a rearguard century to deny the Netherlands a two-day victory, but the Dutch remain on top and Abu Dhabi.

After a short delay waiting for the weather to clear, the visitors started the day in foggy conditions just six runs behind on 158 with 7 wickets in hand, but lost Roelof van der Merwe before they could tie the scores - trapped in front by Farhan Ahmed for 48 to become the third of seven LBW dismissals in the Dutch innings.

Peter Borren made 96Skipper Peter Borren pressed on however, putting on a century partnership with Wesley Barresi before the latter was trapped leg-before by Ahmed Raza for 43, and then taking the Dutch past 300 with support from Pieter Seelaar and Max O'Dowd.

Borren's captain's knock was eventually brought to an end by Raza however, who dismissed his opposite number LBW with the Dutch captain an agonising 4 runs short of his century. Borren's departure precipitated a rapid collapse, the Netherlands subsiding from 306-6 to 315 all out as Raza and Ahmed made short work of the Dutch tail - finishing with five wickets apiece.

Nonetheless with a first innings lead of 151 and almost 50 overs left in the day the Netherlands might have been hoping to wrap things up with two days to spare. Vivian Kingma again claimed an early scalp, having Mohammad Shahzad caught at first slip by Borren - the Dutch captain's fourth catch of the match - with just one run on the board.

Van der Merwe found the next breakthrough soon after entering the attack, Muhammad Kaleem picking out Quirijn Gunning after a belaboured 4 from 48 deliveries. UAE number 3 Shaiman Anwar proved an insurmountable obstacle for the rest of the day however, steadily accumulating runs even as wickets fell around him.

Though Samit Patel's 39-ball 17 provided the only other significant contribution, Anwar obstinately refused to be dislodged. The returning Ahsan Malik would break the pair's 55-run partnership by trapping Patil LBW and followed it up by dismissing Mohammad Usman with his next delivery in like fashion, but Anwar was unmoved.

Though Usman Mushtaq survived only six deliveries before being caught off the bowling of Rippon, Anwar put on another 56 with Saqlain Haider to take the UAE to within 15 runs of parity, reaching a battling century just before the close of play.

With two days still remaining in the match however, the Netherlands will remain confident of victory. The hosts' tail have a huge task in front of them if Anwar's obduracy is to accomplish anything beyond staving off defeat.
