Hosts Thailand claimed the honours in the 7th/8th place play-off at the T20 World Qualifiers on Saturday with a thumping 9-wicket win over The Netherlands in Bangkok.

Sent in to bat first the Dutch were soon in trouble- losing both openers, Heather Siegers and Miranda Veringmeier, with just 14 runs on the board.

Sterre Kalis with 21 and Esther De Lange steadied things temporarily after that but it wasn't long before the Thai women were back on top.

Two wickets each for Sornarin Tippoch (2-11) and Sorayah Lateh (2-20) kept the pressure on the visitors' batting line-up while Chanida Sutthiruang, Nattaya Boochatham and Suleeporn Laomi all chipped in with one apiece as The Netherlands were all out for 70.

A couple of run-outs did little to help the batting cause but to be fair, the home side bowled and fielded really well to give them the advantage at half-way.

Thailand's chase began well with Naruemol Chaiwai and Sirintra Saengsakaorat putting on 42 for the 1st wicket before the latter was dismissed by De Lange for 9.

It was to be the Dutch women's only success with the ball however as Chaiwai hit an unbeaten 34- a knock that was to earn her the player-of-the-match award.

Boochatam added 14 not out as the home side reached the target with no further loss and with almost 6 overs to spare.

It was a convincing performance from Thailand on which to end what was a embarrassing campaign for both teams over the course of the week.
