O'Reilly Revels in Brilliant Irish Victory to Reach World T20 Qualifier Final
Ireland's soon to be veteran of two World Cups, sixteen year old Lucy O'Reilly, turned in a superb display with the ball in Ireland's excellent victory over Scotland today.
O'Reilly returned excellent figures of 3 for 16 in what was a superb Irish bowling performance once again.
Robyn Lewis 2 for 9, Isobel Joyce 1 for 9, Kim Garth 1 for 12, Laura Delany 1 for 14 and Ciara Metcalfe 1 for 15 were the other successful bowlers.
Ireland's batting performance was equally as impressive losing just one wicket in chasing down the score easily.
Clare Shillington with 34 from 28 balls and Cecelia Joyce with 36 from 34 balls saw Ireland home with the minimum of fuss.
Ireland will now hope to round off a successful Tournament by winning the final against Bangladesh.
Barry Chambers: Lucy congratulations on your Player of the Match award. Your consistent performances continue. Took three wickets in a comfortable win?
Lucy O'Reilly: Yeah I'm delighted, thank you. It's been great, we've worked really hard before this. And to just now realize that we're going to India is just a great achievement. And we're all just so happy.
Barry Chambers: There can't be many of your age that are going to be playing in two World Cups?
Lucy O'Reilly: I know, it's an amazing thing to kind of think that I'm going to my second World Cup and I'm only sixteen. But I'm just so excited. You know the last one was just great, and it's a great experience. So luckily all the girls will be ready to go. And hopefully we can get a few wins in.
Barry Chambers: Your three wickets were actually all off cutters. You've worked quite a bit on it, Alex Cusack tells me.
Lucy O'Reilly: I've been working really hard on them. Variations is something that's really needed in a T20 Game. So I'm happy that they've paid off.
Barry Chambers: And of course your father Peter played for Ireland. Has he been coaching you with your bowling or do you just do your own thing?
Lucy O'Reilly: He does yes. He's always looking to improve me and giving me tips. He's a great help, and I'm thankful for that - he's really encouraging.
Barry Chambers: And you'll be looking forward to Bangladesh in the final. You'll want to finish the Tournament with a win?
Lucy O'Reilly: Definitely. We've said that from the start that we want to win the Tournament. So it would be great to get a win against Bangladesh and lift the trophy on Saturday.
