Thailand's hopes of reaching the semi-finals in the tournament they are hosting have been left hanging by a thread after a second consecutive defeat, this time against Papua New Guinea.

Thailand were put into bat and, like many teams batting first in this tournament, struggled to keep up any sort of decent run rate. Naruemol Chaiwai was the top scorer with 22, but only two other players were able to reach double figures. Norma Ovasuru took 3-13 as the hosts were kept to 70-6 from their 20 overs.

Papua New Guinea lost Varoi Morea for a duck in the first over of their reply, but were never really in trouble at any point after that. Norma Ovasura capped a good match for her by top scoring with 36 as her team completed a seven wicket win with three overs to spare.

Papua New Guinea now have the unenviable task of playing Bangladesh in their final group stage match on Tuesday. Thailand will play Scotland on the same day, needing a big win if they are to be in the mix for a semi-final spot.
