Scotland have got their Women's World Twenty20 off to a good start with a win over Papua New Guinea in a low scoring match at the Thailand Cricket Ground in Bangkok.
Scotland captain Abbi Aitken won the toss and put Papua New Guinea into bat. With both openers out for ducks, it quickly became apparent that it was the correct decision. Scotland's bowlers remained on top, only allowing two Papua New Guinean players to reach double figures.
There were four run outs in the PNG innings, whilst Kirstie Gordon and Abatha Maqsood both took two wickets as Papua New Guinea were bowled out for just 53.
Scotland lost Fiona Urquhart and Rachel Scholes early on in their reply, but there were no further wickets in the match. Kari Anderson and Samantha Haggo put on an unbeaten 43 to secure the eight wicket win, but took 12.5 overs to do so, potentially costly should net run rate decide which team reaches the semi-finals.
Scotland will look to make it two from two when they take on Bangladesh tomorrow, whilst Papua New Guinea will play hosts Thailand.
