Ireland's U19's suffered an embarrassing 56 run loss to a local side ahead of their U19 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Playing the Royal Malaysian Air Force at the Bayuemas Oval, three wickets from Phoenix's Rory Anders saw their opponents restricted to 201 for 9 in their 50 overs.

Donemana's Gary McClintock picked up 2 for 48, while there was one wicket apiece for Tom Stanton, Aaron Gillespie, Varun Chopra and Josh Little.

Chasing a relatively modest total, the Irish players wilted in the stifling heat, slumping to a disappointing 145 all out with 8 overs unused.

Lorcan Tucker top scored with 28, while other contributors of note were Gary McClintock (26), Rory Anders (23) and William McClintock (17).

The teams meet again on Sunday, while Ireland's tournament begins in earnest against Papua New Guinea on Friday.
