After running Scotland close in the first match on Wednesday, Nepal would have been perhaps hoping to end their jaunt around Europe with a win in the second game at Ayr.
But Nepal's tour instead ended in a fashion that perhaps matched the miserable weather on the Ayrshire coast as they crashed to a nine wicket defeat in a match that went into a second day due to said weather.
Scotland captain Preston Mommsen won the toss and chose to field first. The Nepali innings never got going, with no significant partnership to speak of. Sharad Vesawkar top scored for them with 30, but only one other batsman was able to score more than the 18 extras given away by Scotland.
Ali Evans was miserly with the ball, going for just 18 runs in his ten overs, taking three wickets in the process. Nepal batted until the final over of their quota, but were bowled out for 167 before they could bat out that over.
Then the rain came, with a delay of over three hours. The playing conditions for the WCLC mandate that an attempt must be made to complete the game in one day, but a reserve day is available. So when the rain finally relented, Scotland were given a target of 110 in 22 overs.
Out came the players, and 10 balls later with Scotland on 15-0, back in they went as the rain returned, ending the days play. So despite there being easily enough time for a full 50 over reply, the regulations meant that the Scotland innings would still be 22 overs when they came back the following morning.
Kyle Coetzer was dismissed for 7 early on this morning, before George Munsey and Matthew Cross put on an unbeaten 91 to secure a nine wicket win. Cross continued his form from the T20 Qualifier by top scoring with 51 from just 37 balls, whilst Munsey scored 40. Scotland still had 8 overs to spare.
Scotland's next WCLC matches will be in September when they visit the Netherlands. Nepal are set to host Papua New Guinea at some point between August and November.
