On a gusty and very blustery morning in Edinburgh Scotland and Oman met to determine not just who would win a game of cricket but also, potentially, who would top the congested group B table.
Both teams could grasp automatic qualification to the World T20 in India (depending on other results) but in tough playing conditions it would most likely be the team that held their nerve that would take away the win and two vital points.
After winning the toss Oman chose to bowl first and Instantly failed to keep the Scottish batting under wraps. Coetzer and MacLeod set up a brisk opening partnership of 60 In 6.1 overs before MacLeod was out for 20.
Coetzer was ably assisted by Cross, 20 from 11 balls, before eventually being caught behind for 63 off 38 balls in the 14th over having set up a promising score to set a tough total from.
From 129/4 after 15 overs Berrington and Mommsen Took charge pushing the total up to finish on 173/5 with Mommsen's unbeaten 32 off 18 balls a highlight.
Oman didn't help themselves in the field with too much short bowling and too many catches dropped in the unpleasant swirling wind. However, the Scottish total looked achievable especially considering the Dutch chased a similar total down against Canada with two overs to spare just the day before on the same pitch.
Oman Didn't help their cause early in their innings as Zeeshan Maqsood was caught at long on for 11 in the second over to be the first of Sharif's three victims and Zeeshan Ahmed went in Sharief's second over for only 7.
Aamir Kaleem was the only concern for Scotland. His 59 off 47 balls was the standout innings and while he was at the crease Oman always looked like they had a chance. When Sharif pinned back his stumps in the 18th over to end with figures of 3/27 from his 4 overs Oman's hopes of killing another giant ended with him as Oman fell 23 runs short at the close of the game.
