Gerrie Snyman's 62 from only 35 balls led Namibia to a crushing seven-wickets victory over the USA at Stormont in Group A.

Set just 114 for victory, an opening stand of 97 between Snyman and Stephen Baard (34 from 29 balls) made light work of the chase as they reached their target with more than seven overs to spare.

Snyman played a range of powerful shots all around the wicket but especially down the ground, striking five fours and five sixes in an innings that punished some fairly average American bowling.

Baard and Raymond Schoor fell soon after Snyman as leg-spinner Timil Patel picked up 2 for 36, but neither the result nor its crushing nature were ever in doubt.

The start of the match had been delayed by an hour due to heavy rain both overnight and in the morning, and the consequently damp conditions made the toss vital.

Namibian captain Nicolaas Scholtz had the luck to win it and inevitably asked the Americans to bat. Despite an accomplished 49 off 41 deliveries from left-hander Akeem Dodson, the USA innings never gained any momentum as wickets fell regularly.

Some calamitous calling saw three American batsmen run out as the Namibians produced a polish performance in the field. Slow-left-armer Bernard Scholtz took 2 for 13 from his three overs and none of the other bowlers went for more than seven an over.

The American dream of finishing in the ‘top two' now looks increasingly improbable, while the Namibians' campaign gathers pace.
