Scotland have recorded a comprehensive 99 run win over the Netherlands as the European Under-19 Championship got underway in Jersey today.

Dutch captain Saqib Zulfiqar - one of three triplets in the Dutch side - won the toss and chose to bowl first. Scotland started their innings scoring at about 5 runs per over, a rate they kept up throughout the innings.

Openers Syed Shah and Ben Wilkinson put on 74 before Wilkinson was bowled by Davi van Slobbe, whilst Shah reached his fifty before being run out by the Dutch captain. Another wicket soon afterwards and the Scots were on the back foot, but took the advantage thanks to an 87 run fourth wicket partnership between Neil Flack and Finlay McCreath.

Flack was to score 40, whilst McCreath top scored for the Scots with 58. Asief Hoseinbaks took three wickets in the penultimate over to finish with figures of 4-36 before Scotland took 16 from the last to finish on 249-8.

The Dutch were never really in the hunt in their reply. Sikander Zulfiqar and Asad Zulfiqar scored 38 and 35 not out respectively, but no other member of the Netherlands batting order was able to get anything approaching a start.

Haris Aslam took 3-23 as the Netherlands were restricted to 150-9 from their 50 overs, losing by 99 runs.

Scotland will look to make it two from two when they take on the hosts at Grainville tomorrow, whilst the Netherlands will come up against Ireland at Les Quennevais.
