Wesley Barresi made Scotland pay for two early drops, smashing a 40-ball 75, and skipper Peter Borren recorded his best T20I score, smashing 57 from 24, with support from Roelof van der Merwe to take the Dutch to an imposing 191. Ali Evans was the only Scotsman to avoid punishment, taking an excellent 5-24 from his four overs.

But it was not enough to keep the total to something chaseable, and early wickets meant the hosts never really got into the chase. Preston Mommsen's defiant unbeaten 68 from 44 gave the crowd something to cheer for, but came too late to turn the game.

Having elected to bat first on what looked like a good track, the Dutch suffered the early blow of losing Stephan Myburgh in the third over, and might have lost Wesley Barresi two overs later when he was dropped twice in one over off Davey, the second a sitter at cover for Michael Leask.

Leask was made to pay in his first over, when Barresi smashed him for two consecutive sixes as he began to cut loose. Dominating an 82 run stand with Ben Cooper, Barresi brought up his 50 5n 27 balls, finally departing as he crossed his stumps to try to flick evans over fine leg only to fail to connect.

A couple of quick wickets followed, but Borren and van der Merwe first steadied the ship and then began to hit out, putting on 70 for the fifth wicket in quick time. Evans removed both in the penultimate over to keep the Dutch under 200, but by then the damage was done.

Timm van der Gugten had Munsey run out backing up with a well directed deflection into the stumps in the first over of the Scottish innings and Coetzer holed out six balls later to put the Scots well on the back foot.

Some lively hitting from Matthew Cross saw the hosts to 47 after 5 overs, but thereafter the Dutch were dominant. Van der Merwe induced a top edged sweep from Cross, and from there the wheels came off entirely for the Scots. Consecutive batsmen fell victim to the spin of van der Merwe, Seelaar and Rippon as the required rate continued to climb, and by the 12th over the hosts were still more than 100 adrift with just 3 wickets in hand.

Mommsen was determined to make a go of it though, and with support from Sharif he added another 80 runs in just 46 balls for the 8th wicket. It was never quite enough though, and even as boundaries came the Scots slipped behind the rate. With 36 needed off the final over for the tie Mommsen could only manage a four off the first ball, which was followed by a runout and two more wickets for Bukhari to close out a comfortable 32 run victory for the Netherlands.
