Jamie Grassi's unbeaten 115 was the catalyst for the LCU's comprehensive 158 run verdict over the NCU in the Under 17 inter-provincial at Sandel Lodge in Coleraine.

The North County batsman hit 14 fours and a six in his 149 ball stay at the crease, sharing a third wicket stand of 164 with Rush opener Stephen Doheny.

The pair had come together at 18 for 2, after the early wickets of Mark Donegan and Sam Murphy.

Doheny looked destined for a deserved century before holing out to Hunter on the deep midwicket boundary for 88 off 98 deliveries ( 9 fours, 1 six).

Despite Dohney's dismissal, there was no respite for the beleaguered NCU attack, as Grassi shared half century stands with Danny Hogan (31) and JJ Meier (33*).

Meier's knock took just 10 balls, as he cleared the boundary ropes three times taking Leinster to a formidable 298 for 5.

The NCU innings never gained any semblance of momentum - the tone set by the dismissal of Muckamore's talented batsman Sam Gordon for 0.

Skipper Stuart Nelson batted well for his 39, but it was all one way traffic for an energetic Leinster side.

Conor O'Gorman (2-43) bowled with great control in his 10 over spell, but the day's best figures belonged to Doheny who wrapped up the tail taking 3 for 0 as the NCU were skittled for 140 - boosted by 34 extras.

Coleraine will again host the series decider tomorrow (FRI) when Leinster take on the NW in a winner takes all shoot-out.
