Leinster made a winning to start to this year's U-13 interprovincial tournament, defeating Munster by nine wickets at Cregagh in east Belfast.

It was a good day for the YMCA representatives in the Leinster side, especially captain Mitchell Thompson, who made 60 from only 45 balls (11 fours and 2 sixes) as the Dubliners chased down their target of 129.

Thompson dominated an opening stand of 81 with Louis McDonough (Phoenix), who remained unbeaten on 19 as he and Pembroke's Gavin Hoey (26* off 25 balls) saw their team home in only the eighteenth over.

Extras had top-scored for Munster with 41 (including 30 wides), although a fourth-wicket stand of 60 between Galway's Tom Mahon (31 off 52) and Waterford's Cian Egerton (29 off 102 balls) had taken their team to 75-3 in the thirty-third over.

From there, however, Munster collapsed and were dismissed for 128 with nine balls unused.

The Leinster bowlers shared around the wickets. Scott Ruttle (also YMCA) returned the best figures of 3 for 18, opening bowlers Michael O'Reilly and Ben Brownlee (yet more representatives of YMCA) both claimed a couple, while Hoey likewise took two to wrap up the Munster innings.
