Rory McGovern's brilliant unbeaten hundred helped Leinster to a seven-wickets victory over the NCU at Phoenix on the second day of this year's under-15 interprovincials.

Chasing 221 for victory, McGovern struck 21 fours in his total of 126 from only 117 balls.

Supported by Ian Anders (25) and then by Sean Currie, who made an undefeated 30 from only 34 balls, Leinster reached their target with more than nine overs unused.

CSNI's Matthew Foster took the NCU's wickets - the other Leinster batsman fell to a run out effected by Matthew Fleetham and Charlie Shannon.

Earlier in the day Jack Carson and Ben Rose both made 40 for the NCU, while John Glass continued his good from with 37 as the junior Knights made 220-9 in their fifty overs.

JJ Garth was the pick of the Leinster bowlers, recording the impressive figures of 4-40, while Ian Anders had a good day all-round, preceding his runs with three wickets.

Leinster, unbeaten after two rounds, now move top of the table.

In the day's other match, the North West scraped home in a thriller, chasing down the Southern XI's 188 for with only nine balls and three wickets remaining.

The North Westers had Marcus Poskitt and Matthew Hutchinson to thank for their win.

Opening the innings, Poskitt made a stoic 54 from 114 balls and Hutchinson, coming in at eight, made a vital 32* from 55 deliveries.

The Southern XI's wickets were shared around but, like yesterday, there were two apiece for the Aarons, Cawley and O'Neill.

In the first innings of the day, none of the Southern batsmen got going. Indeed, extras 'top-scored' with 32.

With the ball, Warriors captain Varun Chopra stood out, the Coleraine man taking 3-22 from his ten overs.

Straabne's Reece Logue also picked up three wickets for the Warriors as he delivers his full quota of overs for 35.

Leinster, then, are in the driving seat in the tournament, but if they lose to the North West tomorrow then either the NCU or the North West themselves could pip the hosts on run rate.
