The picturesque Saxton Oval in Nelson was the venue for Scotland's fourth match in the 2015 World Cup.

Scotland fielded an unchanged side from the one that narrowly lost to Afghanistan and were asked to bat after losing the toss.

Scotland again found runs hard to come by in the early overs as MacLeod (11) and Gardiner (19) were dismissed with only 38 runs on the board.

However the situation improved when Machan joined Coetzer at the crease as the duo added 78 runs for the third wicket to repair the early damage before Machan gave a return catch to Rahman to depart for 35.

Coetzer however was in imperious form as he continued to punish any bad deliveries and together with Preston Mommsen they added 141 runs for the fourth wicket. This was the highest partnership by Scottish batsmen at a World Cup.

Mommsen was the man to fall, he had contributed 39 and was caught by Nasir Hossain as he looked to up the scoring rate. His innings had come at just over a run a ball and included two fours and one six.

Twelve runs later Coetzer also perished as he continued to take the attack to Bangladesh to leave the score on 269 for 5.

He had made 156 the highest score by a Scottish batsman at the World cup and the second highest score in an ODI. His runs had come from 134 balls and he hit seventeen fours and four sixes.

As he left the field he was given a standing ovation by a very appreciative crowd.

Berrington (26) and Cross (20) with some late order hitting enabled Scotland to close their innings on 318 for 8, their highest ever total in a World Cup match and their third highest in an ODI.

Taskin Ahmed with 3 for 43 was the pick of the Bangladesh attack with the other five wickets to fall shared out with the other six bowlers used.

On the resumption Scotland got the breakthrough when Sarkar edged a Davey delivery to Cross with only five runs on the board.

It was to prove a false dawn as Tamin Iqbal playing in his 138th ODI and Mahmudullah in his 113th showed their experience with a 139 run partnership for the second wicket as the Scottish bowlers found it difficult to hit a consistent length and assert pressure on the two batsmen.

The partnership was eventually broken when Mahmudullah was bowled by Davey for 62. He was a little unfortunate as the ball was missing leg stump but hit his back foot and deflected on to the stumps.

Iqbal continued to hold firm and was five short of a deserved hundred when Davey struck again trapping him in front for 95 to give Scotland a glimmer of hope with the score on 201 for 3 in the thirty second over.

However Rahim (60), Al Hasan (58*) and Rahman (42*) saw Bangladesh home to victory by six wickets with eleven balls to spare.

After the match Scotland captain Preston Mommsen expressed his disappointment in losing the match and admitted his players were gutted at not recording their first World Cup win. He did however pay credit to the Bangladesh batsmen on the way they chased down the runs.

Scotland on reflection will take a lot of positives from the match as they now move on to Tasmania where they will complete their campaign with matches against Sri Lanka and Australia.
