Kyle McCallan slams ICC and says Eoin Morgan can't play with freedom for England

Former Ireland captain and current Sky Sports pundit Kyle McCallan insists Dubliner Eoin Morgan would be a completely different player if he was still playing for the country of his birth.

Speaking to The Slog Sweep's World Cup cricket show Bails and Buzzers, McCallan, who is also a Cricket Ireland selector, said the environment in which the English team operates means they don't get the best out of their players.

In the lead-up to the World Cup, Morgan, who was recently appointed England ODI captain, has struggled for form with the bat having scored four ducks in his last five innings, including in the tournament opener against Australia on Saturday.

However, McCallan - who played with Morgan for Ireland in the 2003 World Cup - believes the intense media scrutiny in England makes it extremely difficult for a player to play with any freedom.

In a wide-ranging interview after Ireland's win over West Indies in Nelson on Monday, McCallan also spoke about how he hopes Ireland 'embarrass' the ICC by reaching the knock-out stages of the World Cup while labelling the governing body as a bias organisation with no respect for Associates as well as condemning their self-motivated agenda.
