Uganda came out on top in the World League Division 2 fifth-place play-off in Windhoek on Saturday leaving Canada with the wooden spoon in the ICC tournament.

An excellent bowling performance from Frank Nsubuga's side set the catalyst for an 8-wicket verdict; the Canadians dismissed for just 140 as they batted first.

Early wickets for Jonathan Sebanja (3-26) and the skipper (1-37) had Canada struggling on 25-3. A fourth wicket stand of 43 between Jimmy Hansra (31) and Usman Limbada (22) sparked a mini revival before Henry Ssenyondo (3-21) put Uganda back in charge.

Ssenyondo did for the middle order as the next 4 wickets fell for just 23 to leave the batting side 91-8. It could have been a quick end to the innings thereafter, had it not been for Hamza Tariq (32) and Nikhil Dutta (19*) who resisted manfully with a 48 run partnership. Tariq hit 3 fours and 2 sixes as he tried to up the ante but it rarely looked any more than damage limitation. It may have been a gutsy effort from the 9th wicket pairing but the fact that none of the other 6 players got into double figures told its own tale.

Roger Musaka and Arthur Kyobe both made 22 before falling in quick succession as Uganda started their chase. Skipper Hansra (1-19) and Navneet Dhaliwal (1-36) were the successful bowlers but there just weren't enough runs to play with for the fielding side.

Third wicket pairing Philliman Selowa (48*) and Lepono Ndhlovu (40*) took over from there and eased their side to a facile victory with very few scares along the way. Both men batted really well- Selowa with 6 fours and Ndhlovu 5 fours and a six in their unbroken 90-run stand.

Those efforts brought to an end a disappointing tournament for both of the combatants but for Uganda at least this was a positive end to proceedings.
