Singapore defeated Bahrain by 68 runs in the final of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 (WCL Div.6) at the Kalang on Saturday.
While the host team, which has also beaten Bahrain in the round match, finished unbeaten in the tournament, the defeat didn't stop Bahrain from proceedings to the WCL Div.5 along with Singapore in front of an appreciative crowd at the Kalang ground.
Elsewhere, Guernsey defeated Malaysia in the third and fourth-place play-off at the Singapore Cricket Club with Jeremy Frith scoring an impressive 101 for the winner while in the fifth and sixth-place play-off at the Indian Association, Botswana defeated Norway by 21 runs after being set a target of 343.
At the Kalang, Singapore won the toss and elected to bat first. But the decision backfired when the home team lost its captain for a naught in the opening over. However, half-century by Munish Arora and a solid 41 from Anish Param helped the host to 242-8 in 50 overs.
Bahrain, in its run-chase, slumped to 60-7 before Tahir Dar and Shahzad Ahmed steadied the ship. The pair took the side to 155-8 before Dar departed after scoring a fine 73. Dar's dismissal delayed the inevitable as Bahrain was eventually bowled out for 174.
Singapore captain Chetan Suryawanshi, reflecting on his side's victory, said: 'I said at the beginning that I really hope we win all our matches and now that we've achieved it I feel great.
'We've had a really great tournament and all our skills have improved greatly, especially in the fielding, thanks to our coach Trevor Chappell.
'We're now really looking forward to Div.5 in Nepal where we hope we can be as successful as we have been here in our own backyard.'
Singapore coach Trevor Chappell said: 'I'm extremely happy with the way the boys have performed in this tournament. They're worked extremely hard and the time and effort they've put in has really paid off.
'We didn't know much about the other teams when we came into this event, apart from Malaysia. I feel we've really learned a lot from the whole experience and the side can take all the lessons to Div.5 in Nepal next year.'
Elsewhere, Guernsey secured a thrilling two-run victory after a spectacular 101 off 157 balls by its number-three batsman Jeremy Frith.
Frith was ably assisted by James Warr (69) before falling to Suresh Navaratanam who finished 2-48.
At the Indian Association, Botswana secured only its second win of the tournament after it beat Norway by 21 runs.
Botswana batsman Karan Kapoor scored an impressive 138, while vice-captain Abdul Patel made 53 to help their side to 342-5 in 50 overs.
With another enormous run-chase ahead of them, Norway's captain Zaheer Ashiq led the way contributing 69 runs as Norway was bowled out for 321 in 49.2 overs.
