Guernsey coach Andy Cornford along with captain Stuart Le Prevost are quietly confident ahead of the WCL Division 6 6 that begins on Saturday.

Guernsey who arrived in Singapore five days ahead of the start of the tournament to acclimatize have played one warm-up match which they proceeded to win.

Guernsey coach, Cornford said: 'I'm pleased we came out early for the tournament to get the side used to the humidity and different playing conditions.

'It's also good that all our team are coming here straight from playing in the Guernsey local leagues so they've had lots of match practice and we feel we've got plenty of breadth to choose from in the squad.'

Le Prevost said: 'We don't know too much about the opposition apart from Bahrain who qualified with us from Division 7, but I did ask a few of the Jersey team what their knowledge of Norway, Botswana and Singapore was as they played against them in Division 5 last year.

'I'm confident with how we will perform here, we've got a good team and we're looking forward to the challenges this event holds.'

One of the opposition Guernsey won't know too much about is Malaysia, a factor that Malaysia captain Suhan Alagaratanam is relishing.

Alagaratanam said: ''We have played a lot of our cricket in Singapore, so as a side I think Malaysia will do well in this tournament.

'The only team that know us is Singapore so it gives us the added advantage over the other sides, they don't know what to expect.'

The captain also believes that with the conditions will favour Malaysia and believes his side has a couple of key players to watch during the tournament: 'We know the conditions and we have strong players, particularly in the forms of Thushara Kodikara and Suresh Navarathnam and this really is a wide open tournament where anyone can take the title and move up a division.'
