Singapore were whitewashed in a three-match series against the Air India cricket team last week, but some good individual performances will give them hope for when they host division six of the World Cricket League at the end of this month.

All three matches were held at Kallang, with the first taking place on Saturday. Air India won the toss and put Singapore in to bat. The upper order of Singapore was dominated by Dharmichand Mulewa, who scored 67 before he was caught by Pankaj Jaiswal off his own bowling.

At the end of their innings, Singapore were given a boost by an unbroken last wicket partnership of 45 between Pramodh Raja (33 from 32 balls) and Rohan Tripathi (23 from 21), taking their total to 248/9 from their 50 overs. Ishaan Ganda was the pick of the Air India bowlers with 3/31.

Air India's reply saw them take the game away from Singapore with a 133 run partnership between Srideep and Sachin Rana for the third wicket before Rana was out for 69. Srideep stayed in, scoring an unbeaten 107 to lead his team to a seven wicket win after 48 overs.

The second match on Sunday was a much closer affair. Air India again won the toss and put the home side into bat, and a fantastic innings of 135 from 115 balls by Chetan Suryawanshi led them to a total of 286 before they were bowled out three balls short of their full 50 over quota. Sachin Rana was the pick of the Air India bowlers with 5/48.

Rana then showed his all-round ability, sharing in a 117 run fourth wicket partnership with Deepak Joon before being dismissed for 82, made from 63 balls. Joon followed soon after for 53, and Singapore were looking like winning when they reduced Air India to 262/9.

But Air India's last pair blasted the remaining 27 runs in just eight legitimate deliveries to win a close game by one wicket with 20 balls to spare.

After a day's rest, the series resumed on Tuesday with Singapore winning the toss and electing to bat first in a match reduced to 40 overs.

This time Buddhika Mendis was the star with the bat, scoring 87 at just under a run a ball. Anish Param hit a quick unbeaten 46 towards the end of the innings to take the Singapore total to 214/8.

Air India's reply started poorly for them when Pramodh Raja bowled Rohit Prakash with no score on the board from the fifth ball of the match. But Paul Valhaty played a sensational innings, smashing 76 from 43 balls as he put on 86 for the second wicket with Omkar Gaurav.

Valhaty was then dismissed by Mohamed Shoib Abdul Razak, who had T Rahman bowled from the very next ball. And when he had Deepak Joon caught in his next over, the game looked to be turning Singapore's way.

But they reckoned without Omkar Gaurav, who had been quietly watching the demolition from Paul Valhaty, as he then took of on his own innings. He put on 88 for the fifth wicket with Sachin Rana, who eventually became Razak's fourth victim for a run a ball 37.

The damage had already been done, and Gaurav guided his team to the win, finishing unbeaten on 71 as Air India won by five wickets in their 35th over to secure the series whitewash.

Singapore's next international action will be in the World Cricket League Division Six tournament which they host starting at the end of this month. They start their campaign with a match against WCL7 runners-up Guernsey on the first day.
