Such is the competitive nature of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier that heading into the final round of group matches on Wednesday, only one team knows for sure that its hopes of progressing to the Super Eight are gone.

Having competed well against the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and other teams, Denmark was unable to get over the line and so must now prepare for the ninth-12th-place play-offs.

But all 11 other teams have a chance – a slim one in some cases – of qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and we must wait and see the result of the last group matches before we know who the Super Eight will be.

In Group A, Ireland, Canada and Scotland are already through, which leaves three sides fighting it out for the last remaining spot available. At present, Namibia is occupying that coveted fourth place but it is only ahead of fifth-placed Uganda on net run-rate and with a tough game against the unbeaten Ireland coming up the Namibians will be feeling the pressure having underperformed at the event so far.

Uganda plays Oman on Wednesday knowing that victory could put it in the Super Eight but Oman could even sneak in there if it beats Uganda comprehensively and Namibia loses badly.

In Group B, Kenya, the Netherlands and the UAE are all likely – but not certainly – to get into the last eight with Afghanistan and Bermuda scrapping for fourth place. The Afghans are currently on four points and must take on the UAE at Vaal University while Bermuda knows victory against the Netherlands in an ODI at Potchefstroom Cricket Ground is a must if it is to stand any chance of getting into its second Cricket World Cup in a row.

It's all to play for.
