Wins for Scotland ove Kenya and Canada over Ireland on Sunday have set up a fascinating final day of the round robin competition in Nairobi on Monday.

With Scotland already through to the final, and assured of a place in September's world Twenty20 tournament and the associated $US 250,000, three teams have at least an outside chance of joining them.

Hosts Kenya have the inside running, knowing that a win against Canada at Jaffrey Sports Club today will ensure their place in Wednesday's final.

For Canada, currently one game behind, a win is not enough in itself to take them through - their net run rate is at present well behind that of their opponents, and they would need a very substantial victory to overtake them. Depending on the actual scores involved, the Canadians would need to win by 75 runs or more batting first to build a superior run rate, which is calculated by comparing the average runs per over for and against each team.

If the Canadians were to win chasing, they would need to use significantly fewer overs than the Kenyans in order to swing the balance in their favour.

Meanwhile, The Netherlands take on Ireland at Gymkhana, with an outside possibility that they, too, could make it to the final. Again, a big win would be essential if they are to improve their net run rate sufficiently to overhaul both Kenya and Canada, and the Dutch are also depending on the Canadians to register a win.

Unless Kenya impose their authority early on in the game at Jaffrey, therefore, it may well be a busy day for the statisticians as the various permutations take their course.
