One of the fixtures in the opening round of the ICC World Cricket League Division 1 (WCL Div. 1) in Nairobi has been moved a day earlier from 30 January to 29 January.

The ODI match, which is between host Kenya and Bermuda, will take place at the same venue as originally scheduled, Jaffery Sports Club in Nairobi.

ICC and Cricket Kenya were informed yesterday by the venue organisers that it was not possible to host the match on the original date due to the fact that it fell on the same day as the Islamic holiday commemorating the Day of Ashura.

The tournament Technical Committee considered the issue and decided that in order to cause as little disruption as possible to the event, it would rearrange the Kenya v Bermuda game for one day earlier.

Both teams agreed to the change in fixture and all the other fixtures in the WCL Div. 1 remain as scheduled.

'In the opinion of the Technical Committee, this move will have the least overall impact on the tournament from the originally scheduled start date and still allows for our full complement of rest / reserve days to be retained,' said Chris Briers, chairman of the Technical Committee.

The WCL Div. 1 Technical Committee consists of:

  • Chris Briers (Tournament Director, chairman)
  • Richard Done (ICC High Performance Manager)
  • Philip Hudson (ICC representative)
  • Nasoor Verjee (Chairman of local organising committee)
  • Sharad Rao (independent Cricket Kenya nominee)
