Finland win relegation battle
ICC/CricketEurope
FINLAND won the battle of the basement teams, their 167 runs victory giving them their first win of the week and, surely, condemning Slovenia to last place.
Shabir Sheerzad scored 56 of Finland’s 233 for seven, only one less than all the Slovenia batsmen scored between them. The Finns were 64 for three at halfway but that was as good as it got for the Slovenians.
The sixth wicket stand of 65 with Shakil Islam came up in 10 overs, the 38 runs partnership for the seventh with Bilal Khan took only four overs and even after Sheerzad was out in the 45th over, Finland still managed another 36 runs from Ekhpelwak Kuchey and Zaki Kamal.
Brad Eve and Mark Oman each took two wickets, conceding just over three runs an over.
Mark Oman, as usual, dug in scoring just eight from 69 balls but he was second out with the score on 56. At the other end Tom Furness kept the scoreboard ticking with 41 from 64 balls but after he was caught by Finland captain Jonathan Scamans to give Amrik Bhatia his second wicket, the Slovenia collapse was chronic.
Only two of their last seven batsmen got off the mark as they lost their slumped from 61 for three to 66 all out. Bhatia finished with five for 15 and Kuchey had figures of three for nine from 9.4 overs.
